The Hawthorne Democratic Organization is pleased to announce its slate of candidates for Mayor and Council for 2017. Attorney and activist Naomi B. Collier is the Democratic candidate for Mayor, and Meaghan Tuohey, Cynthia Frank and Jacquelyn Burrows are the candidates for Council at Large.

Naomi B. Collier

Ms. Collier, a resident of Hawthorne for the last 14 years, is Vice Chair of Hawthorne Democratic Organization and Past President of the Democrats for Hawthorne. She is co-founder of the Hawthorne Farmer’s Market and is a member of various organizations, including Friends of the Louis Bay 2nd Library. Professionally, she practices law in Hackensack at the law firm of Pashman, Stein, Walder, Hayden, PC, specializing in the area of trusts and estates, with a concentration on assisting elderly and disabled individuals.

She belongs to several legal organizations, including Women Lawyers in Bergen County, the Bergen County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, Elder and Disability Law Section, the Estate Planning Council of Northern New Jersey, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Ms. Collier is married to her husband Brian and has two sons, Kristofer, 13, and Kaleb, 11. She is a member of the Parent Teacher Organizations at both of her sons’ schools, Lincoln Middle School and Roosevelt Elementary School.

Meaghan Tuohey

Meaghan Tuohey-KayMs. Tuohey, a lifelong Hawthorne resident, is an attorney with a solo practice in Haledon who has been active in many local organizations over the years and was the founding Market Manager of the Hawthorne Farmers’ Market. She also has been the chair of the Friends of Passaic County Parks and coached a number of sports in town. Tuohey is a single mother to daughter Grace, 16, and son Liam, 13.

Cynthia Frank

Cindy FrankMs. Frank, an Instructional Designer and longtime activist, has been a Learning and Development professional for over 20 years and has lived in Hawthorne for 19 years. She is a member of Hawthorne’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and is certified to do pet therapy with her dog, Bella.

Jacquelyn Burrows

Jackie BurrowsMs. Burrows, a lifelong Hawthorne resident, recently retired from her job as a Postal Carrier in Glen Rock and is set to devote her energies to working on the Borough Council to make life better for the residents of Hawthorne. She is a believer in open space and inclusivity in government and is active in many local organizations, including the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) and the Lions Club. She also collects musical instruments for children in disadvantaged communities. Ms. Burrows is also active in her adoptive community of Glen Rock, where she worked for 39 years. She sponsors a softball team there.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. But brick by brick, we’re building up the democratic party in Hawthorne.
